  1. Is it possible to 'copy a service' like we could in LSB 1? I'm planning the services for Holy Week, and would like to simply use the service I created last year with the updated readings.

  2. I think you need to open it in one and it transfers to 2... Don't quote me. Or go to one and export it and open it with 2

  3. Open up the service you used for Holy Week last year, then go into the Plan Service task.

At the bottom, you'll see a message concerning the liturgy on which you originally based the service, and a Save As button. Click the Save As button and give your new order of service a name.

When you go to plan the next service, you'll see your custom order of service listed underneath the Lutheran Service Book orders. You can then select it to implement it for the current service.

You can also edit your custom orders of service now by going to My Worship Resources and selecting the Liturgies group. From there, you have access to the same tools we used to create the stock services in Builder. You could theoretically re-create every order of service from LSB from scratch using that mode.

  4. Thanks for the reply Ryan,

But I realized I wrote the wrong thing in my post. I've found how to copy the liturgy. I even found how you can pull an element for a previous service -- That's awesome.

What I meant to type was can I copy the service I created last year with the *same* readings and hymns.

Two examples -- Good Friday we have service that focuses on the 7 Last Words. If I simply save the liturgy, I have to re enter all the texts. I only want to update one or two hymns. Is there a way to do that.

My second example is Easter. We replace a lot of the ordinaries with Easter hymns (Hymn of Praise, Gradual hymn, Alleluia hymn, etc). Our Easter service will be the exact same service as last year, except I will be changing the date.

I can simply pull up last years service, change the date, and send it to the secretary, but then the copyright usage would not be sent to CPH properly.

  5. Ryan,

This was asked 7 months ago and I have not seen a response (I could have missed it). This is a major disappointment for our Pastors since we have 3 services and mostly there are 2 that are near identical but just need some minor changes (ie - baptism in the early but not the late). This sounds like we have to re-create each service and re-insert all the hymns (if we save the backbone as a custom order of service) to perhaps change 2 elements. This was exceedingly easy in LSB1 and it is frustrating that that function seems to have been lost in LSB2.

    Any help?

    Thanks

  6. I just talked with Mike at the help desk and he said that this ability that was in LSB1 has been lost in LSB 2 and could not be done directly. He thought it was perhaps in an update to come. He thought a work around might be to export the service as an LSBx file and then just import it and change the name. Sounds like something a basic macro might do but I will try it.

My question for Ryan is.... Is this change scheduled for any time soon or is it just on the books as a needed upgrade as many things are which have an indeterminate future fix date?

  7. Ryan,

Sorry but when I tried Mike's fix it did allow me to export a file, I changed the name, and then imported it. It then said I already had a service like this and All I got were 2 choices: overwrite the current file or abort the process and cancel the import. Not helpful for waht I wanted to do. Am I missing something or just trying to do something that nobody else has the need for so it was dropped from the last version?

Could there be a third choice of saving as another service?

    Any more ideas?

    Thanks,

    Andy

  8. We didn't include the feature in Builder 2; that's correct.

This is the first time the question has arisen since Builder 2 was released, so we'll have to take a look at it and see what we can do about it.

We understand that we've got a lot of these things "on the list", as you mention above, but please be assured that we take all feedback into account and we work on additional features when we have the opportunity.

  9. Ryan,

Thanks for the info. I understand then that we will have to live with the current system and find some individual work around since (again) we seem to be asking for something that only we need. If anyone else has another work around that they have found I would love to hear about it.

Is it true that we can't use the workaround that Mike suggested above? Is there no way to make a duplicate service?

    Thanks

    Hey Andy,
There is a way to copy a service.
Create a service on the date you want the service copied to. When you are asked to select an order of service, pick "Empty service outline."
When you are in the Create your order of service window, click on the browse tab in the middle. Click the down arrow in the "Choose a liturgy" select box. Go to "My Worship resources" in the box that pops up. Go to "Services" and then navigate to the year, date of the service you would like to copy.
Once the service is selected, it will appear in the box below and you can then drag it over to the service outline. Note: you may have to drag it in pieces, but it will be a lot quicker than recreating the service from scratch, and it will contain the same readings and hymns.
    I hope this helps.
    Peace!

  11. Ryan Kleimola,
Many thanks for the work around. Not direct nor simple as a macro button but certainly is able to be done and better than starting from scratch!
